6 alternatives for a waste-free bathroom

Our bathrooms are full of useless waste that is easily replaceable with eco-friendly alternatives!

Our bathroom’s waste in numbers:

  • Every year, 4.7 billion toothbrushes end up in landfills and make their way to our oceans.

  • A woman uses an average of 6 cotton pads per day, which amounts to 180 per month and 2100 per year.

  • 3000 tonnes of plastic from toothpaste tubes become waste material, which amounts to 6.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

  • When Ocean Initiatives were conducted, 16,000 cotton swabs were collected.

With these alarming numbers in mind, Kazidomi offers some alternatives to reduce waste in your bathroom.

The alternatives :

Reusable cotton pads

The environmental reason :

Washing the same fabric cotton pad for years is obviously a lot more eco-friendly than throwing multiple cotton pads in your trash every single day. Reusable cotton pads have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years, it is a lot more eco-conscious (and more friendly to your wallet too!) than buying a pack of regular cotton pads every week with its plastic packaging.

Switch to :

Bamboo toothbrushes

The environmental reason :

Small in size but highly polluting, plastic toothbrushes are very dangerous for the planet.

Unlike bamboo toothbrushes, the majority of regular plastic toothbrushes cannot be recycled because they are made of different types of plastic.

Switch to :

  • Biodegradable bamboo toothbrushes from Charles Germain : They have all the advantages of regular toothbrushes when it comes to effectiveness and lifespan, but they don’t come with the disadvantages. Their soft nylon and BPA free bristles will deeply clean your teeth while preserving the most sensitive gums.

The oriculi

The environmental reason :

Starting January 1st, 2020, the sale of plastic cotton swabs will be forbidden. A law aiming to reduce ocean pollution will enter into force. So, how can we clean our ears ?

Switch to :

It is a little tool to clean the ears. It’s inspired by Japanese ear swabs and using it prevents earwax blockage in your ears. The oriculis from the brand Lamazuna are made out of bamboo. This little compostable stick can replace plastic cotton swabs forever!

Solid toothpaste

The environmental reason :

Toothpaste is our best ally to avoid cavities, gum issues, bad breath… We use it two to three times a day, without really knowing its composition. So, why not switch to natural and solid toothpaste which is as efficient but is not dangerous for your health and is waste free?

Switch to :

  • Lamazuna – Peppermint solid toothpaste : This solid toothpaste has a couple drops of peppermint essential oil for a nice feeling of freshness. With its compostable stick, it is not only effective but also eco-conscious.

  • Pachamamaï – Crystal solid toothpaste : Pachamamaï introduces Cocoon, the delicate deodorant…. A natural, cacao-based, very smooth and incredibly effective deodorant… It’s composed of natural ingredients such as Brazilian clay, sodium bicarbonate and arrow root, which allow sweat control.

Solid shampoo

The environmental reason :

Shampoos sold in retail are among the most controversial cosmetic products. Most of them contain sulfates (known to create irritation in long term use), silicones or polymers (polluting and a little suffocating for the hair fiber). Furthermore, using a classic shampoo requires more water as well as plastic packaging that will end up in the trash. The environmental impact is not neutral and therefore, the biggest fans of slow cosmetic and zero-waste use solid shampoo.
